Introduction
This article will guide you on how to best use Survey Templates within the WorkTango platform. Survey Templates on the WorkTango S&I platform are designed to accelerate survey creation by leveraging WorkTango’s Recommended Assessments. These Recommended Assessments are available for a variety of survey types, such as Engagement, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DE&I), Onboarding, Exit, and more. By using these templates, HR teams can quickly deploy surveys that are aligned with industry best practices, helping to generate meaningful insights efficiently. This article will guide you on how to best use Survey Templates within the WorkTango platform.
How to Use Survey Templates
To create a survey using a template, follow the steps below:

Create a survey using a template:
- From the Surveys page, click the 'Create a new survey' dropdown and select 'Choose from template…

Choose Template, Languages, and Survey Type

Template: A list of available templates will appear. Select the template you wish to use by clicking ‘Select’. A preview of template questions will appear for your reference.
Note: Before using a template, ensure you’ve first created a Survey Type under the appropriate category (e.g., DE&I, Engagement). Templates related to that category will remain greyed out until the corresponding Survey Type is set up. Once the Survey Type is created, the templates will become accessible.

Languages: After choosing a template, select the desired language(s) for the survey from the dropdown list below.
Note: All available Survey Templates come with translations in multiple languages. However, if you edit questions within a template, note that the translations will not automatically update. Your edited English language question will reflect the changes, but the translations in other languages will remain unchanged. If you need to update the translations for these questions, you will have to do so manually.
- Survey Type: If multiple survey types are available for the selected template, you will see a dropdown to choose the appropriate survey type.

Template: A list of available templates will appear. Select the template you wish to use by clicking ‘Select’. A preview of template questions will appear for your reference.

Finalize Survey Creation
- Once you’ve selected the survey type and languages, click ‘Create a survey using selected template’ to proceed.
- The survey will then be in the 'Configure' stage with the selected language(s) and survey type preloaded.

In the 'Build' step, the survey questions from the template will be preloaded, but you can still edit or add more questions as needed. Continue with the survey creation process as described in Custom Survey Creation, Editing, and Sending.
Note: An orange bubble indicator will appear next to the survey type if the template includes questions that reference Factors not set up in that survey type. You will also see the following prompt, informing you that you need to link the relevant Factors during the 'Build' stage:
Survey Templates and Trending
If you have run a survey previously and you want to trend against historical data, DO NOT use Survey Templates to create a new survey from scratch. Instead, clone the previous survey to retain the same questions, or use the “previously asked Qs (for trends)” option when creating a new custom survey, ensuring trending is enabled for your questions. Q. Why can’t I select a survey template, and why is it greyed out?
A: A survey template will appear greyed out if the corresponding Survey Type has not been created in your configuration. To use the template, you must first create a Survey Type under the appropriate category (e.g., DE&I, Engagement). Once the Survey Type is set up, the template will become available for selection.
Q. Can I change the survey type or languages after creating a survey using a template?
A: No, once a survey has been created using a template, the survey type and languages are locked. If you need to make changes to these elements, you will need to create a new survey with the desired survey type and languages.
Q. Are all WorkTango Recommended Assessments available as templates on the platform?
A: Currently, only a few Recommended Assessments are available as templates on the platform, but the product team is actively working to release more templates over time. As new templates become available, they will automatically appear within the platform.
