Survey Build : Best Practices for Setting Up Employee Attributes

Properly setting up employee attributes is crucial for effective survey analysis and reporting to gain deeper insights into your workforce and make data-driven decisions. This article provides a high-level overview of best practices for setting up employee attributes.

Confirm Strategic Requirements

  1. Ensure you have the necessary permissions within the WorkTango platform to manage configuration and employee data.
  2. Identify the key attributes that will be essential for your reporting needs, such as Department, Location, Job Title, and Tenure.
  3. (Optional) Determine if there is demographic data you may wish to collect from the survey itself (e.g., Gender, Ethnicity, Age). Request support as needed for mapping of this data.
  4. Review current attributes to identify any gaps or inconsistencies. 

 

Complete Technical Set-Up

  1. Confirm your platform configuration. Clients with the Surveys & Insights product only or with an un-integrated platform can follow these standard best practices. For clients with integrated platforms or those with our Recognition & Rewards platform, attribute management is via user management as seen here.
  2. Navigate to the "Settings" section of the WorkTango platform and select the "Employee Attributes" tab. Add or edit attributes as outlined here.
  3. Identify primary attributes to be prominently displayed on the reporting dashboard.
  4. Define custom attributes to capture specific data relevant to your organization.
  5. In the case of DE&I attributes you may request, the WorkTango team will utilize "Private Attributes" on the backend to collect sensitive demographic data while maintaining employee confidentiality.
  6. Reference other employee attribute specific resources for more guidance as needed.

Q: How do I determine which attributes should be designated as "Primary"? 

A: Consider the attributes that are most important for your organization's reporting and analysis needs.

Q: What are some examples of "Private Attributes"? 

A: Examples include Gender, Ethnicity, Age, Sexual Orientation, and Veteran Status. Your team will be able to filter the survey by this data if given access, but the data itself will not be visible on the employee file for each employee.

Q: Why don’t I see the option for setting attributes as private? 

A: This setting is only available to WorkTango superadmins, such as our Customer Support and Data teams.
