Accelerate Survey Insights with AI Comment Themes

Survey comments offer a powerful view into the employee experience and employee sentiment. Thematic analysis simplifies lengthy open text survey responses into digestible insights, but the process of manually coding open text responses can be extremely time consuming (especially for large data sets). Keep reading to learn about how you can leverage WorkTango’s Generative AI features to save time, surface employee response themes, and accelerate post-survey action planning.

How to Access AI Comment Themes

Once a survey is complete, WorkTango users with access to the survey and who have “View Reporting” permissions for the survey type will be able to  access the question-by-question reporting experience.

• Navigate to Results and find the relevant text question card
• Click the “See [# of comments] Comments” prompt to view the pie chart of AI Comment Themes.

How To Generate AI Comment Themes

Once a survey is Complete, the WorkTango platform will automatically generate AI Comment Themes for all question types that include comments.  First, Themes are extracted from the set of comments. Then, the most relevant Theme is associated with each comment. A comment can have multiple themes.

AI Comment Themes are for surveys that have moved to Completed between the beginning of January 1 2024 - today’s present date.

The set of Themes for a Text Question are generated from the overall set of comments. When attribute filtering, the pie chart will refresh to show only the subset of Themes (taken from the overall set) that apply to the comments for that attribute.

The total number of Themes generated varies based on the total number of comments.

How To Filter Comments by Themes

Comments can be filtered by Theme.

• Click the filter component
• Select a Theme from the list
• The comment list will be filtered to that Theme

How To Export AI Comment Themes

AI Comment Themes can be exported as Excel (.xls) or PowerPoint (.ppt) files. 

• Click Export
• Choose your preferred file type
  • PPT Summary Report (PowerPoint presentation)
  • XLS Results (Excel file including themes)
  • XLS Raw survey data export (Excel file including all raw data)

If you export an Excel report, the Results .xls will export with the applied comment filter.

How To Disable AI Comment Themes

AI Comment Themes can be disabled via Settings by users with Configuration access. This is a single setting that turns on/off all AI features within the WorkTango Surveys & Insights platform. Simply navigate to your Company Settings and toggle Generative AI settings to “Off.”

This will hide all AI front-end components and disable sending data to the AI. If you toggle it off, Sentiment Analysis, Sentiment Cloud, and AI Comment Summaries will all be hidden. To view WorkTango’s AI policy and disclosure, click here.

Toggling AI Comment Summaries to “Off” can be used to ensure the WorkTango platform meets compliance requirements for organizations with a “no AI” policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Theme label names and the colors in charts and data visualization consistent across surveys?

No. Theme label names may vary across surveys. Colors may also vary from one survey to the next. Labels and colors are created dynamically during AI analysis and are not drawn from a standard list of predetermined Themes. 

Are AI Comment Themes compatible with non-text based questions like quantitative or rating questions?

Yes. If a quantitative or rating question has comments enabled, the AI Comment Themes feature will be available.

Does filtering for a particular Theme impact the AI Comment Themes on top?

No. Filtering the results does not impact the summary.

What historical surveys are AI Comment Themes available for?

AI Comment Themes have been generated for all completed surveys in 2024 and will continue to be generated for all new completed surveys moving forward. If you would like to have AI Comment Themes generated for additional historical surveys beyond those created in 2024, please contact WorkTango Support to make this request.

Who can view AI Comment Themes?

Users with access to the survey and “View Reporting” permissions for the specific survey type can view AI Comment Themes.
