1. Visit your Slack Admin page as a WorkTango Admin and select Slack legacy from the sidebar, under the Integrations section. It's located at /admin/preferences/slack
2. Click the button titled “Disconnect Slack Integration”
3. Success! You’ve disconnected the WorkTango Slack integration 1.0 to your organization’s Slack workspace. You will see a button titled “Authenticate Slack”
Connect Slack Integration
Connect the WorkTango Slack App to your organizations Slack Workspace. The person that configures the Slack WorkTango integration needs to be both an internal IT administrator, with full edit and permission rights inside of Slack as well as a WorkTango administrator. If your IT administrator is not a WorkTango administrator, we require that you grant them these privileges temporarily while they configure the application.
Only one Slack workspace can be linked to a WorkTango account at a time
1. Navigate to the Admin dashboard as a WorkTango Admin and select Slack from the sidebar, under the Integrations section. It is located at /admin/slack
If you do not see Slack as an option under Integrations in your Admin dashboard, please reach out to customersupport@worktango.com so we can enable this feature for you.
2. On the Slack administration page, click the button titled “Connect Slack to WorkTango”. A new tab will open in your browser that allows you to connect the WorkTango Slack App to your Slack workspace.
3. Confirm the Slack workspace you want to connect to the WorkTango Slack App is selected in the upper right corner and click the button titled “Allow”.
4. Success! You’ve connected the WorkTango Slack app to your organization’s Slack workspace. You will be redirected back to the Slack administration page in WorkTango.
Connect Slack Channel to WorkTango
1. Choose the Slack channel you want your WorkTango Recognitions appear in. This creates a Recognition Activity Feed within one of your Slack channels.
2. Navigate to the Admin dashboard as a WorkTango Admin and select Slack from the sidebar (admin/slack). Confirm your integration status is “Connected” in the upper right. Click the button titled “Choose Channel”.
3. Select the Slack channel you’ve chosen for your Activity Feed and click the button titled Save
4. You will see your selected channel configured in the Slack administration page, and you will see a success message that says “Channel saved."
Congrats! You have now configured the first feature of the Slack Integration 2.0 with WorkTango: Recognition Activity Feed in Slack. When your employees create Recognitions, they will be shared in your configured channel. This will only create new Recognitions in the channel moving forward. It will not import previously created recognitions.
Connect Individual User Slack and WorkTango Accounts
Employees at your organization will need to go through the following steps to connect their Slack account to their WorkTango account. This will allow them to send Recognitions directly from Slack by typing /worktango in any conversation or channel from within your organization’s Slack workspace. If your team wants to use this functionality they will need to perform the following steps. To make this easier, we have created a WorkTango Slack App User Guide that you can provide to your employees to assist with this process.
1. Visit your WorkTango Account Settings Page by clicking on your name in the upper right of the WorkTango Dashboard and choosing the “Account” option from the dropdown.
2. On your Account Settings page, click the button titled “Connect to Slack”.You will be redirected to a page that allows you to connect the WorkTango Slack App to your Slack account in your organization’s Slack workspace.
3. Confirm the Slack workspace you want to connect to the WorkTango Slack App is selected in the upper right corner and click the button titled “Allow”. In our example below, we are connecting the WorkTango Slack App called “WorkTango” to Ariana’s slack account in the Slack workspace titled “Your Company”.
4. You will be redirected back to your Account Settings page. You will no longer see a button titled “Connect to Slack” but instead you will see a button titled “Disconnect from Slack”.
5. Congrats! You are now able to send Recognitions from your organization’s Slack workspace. In any channel or conversation in Slack, try it out by typing `/worktango
FAQs
Does every employee have to add the WorkTango Slack App to their Slack accounts?
Employees must add the WorkTango Slack App to their Slack accounts if they want to be able to send recognition from within their company’s Slack workspace.
Why does the slack app say “This app hasn’t been reviewed or approved by Slack.”?
WorkTango’s Slack app is not deployed through the Slack app store. This allows our team to iterate and release functionality much faster than Slack’s review process allows.
After I confirmed I wanted to connect the WorkTango slack app to my organization’s Slack workspace, I was directed back to WorkTango and shown an error. My Slack administration page says it is “Not Connected”. What could be happening?
You may not be logged into Slack as a Slack admin with permission to connect apps in your browser.
There may already be a WorkTango account connected to your Slack workspace. Only one WorkTango account may be connected to a Slack workspace at a time.
Why are some of my slack channels not shown as an option in the WorkTango Slack administration page?
- Private slack channels cannot be used as an activity feed, so they will not be available to select as a configured channel.
- Shared (to other Slack Workspaces) slack channels cannot be used as an activity feed, so they will not be available to select as a configured channel.
- Groups or private chats cannot be used as an activity feed, so they will not be available to select as a configured channel.
Why are Recognitions not appearing in my configured slack channel?
The configured Slack channel may have been archived, deleted, shared with another company, or made private in Slack.
I renamed my “Some Feature” (ex: Core Values) to my custom terminology “Some other name” (ex: Company Values)
Why am I still seeing the name Core Values in Slack when I send a Recognition?
The WorkTango Slack app does not currently support the WorkTango Custom Terminology feature.
Why do some of my users get an error when they try to connect to Slack from their Account Settings page in order to send Recognitions via Slack?
A WorkTango administrator at your organization may still need to connect the WorkTango Slack app to your organization’s Slack workspace in your WorkTango Admin Slack page.
Your Slack account at your organization’s Slack workspace may already be connected to a different WorkTango user account. Only one WorkTango user account can be connected to a Slack user account at a time.
Why isn’t my Slack channel showing up in search results to connect to WorkTango?
The user interface to select a channel to the Activity Feed can only load 20,000 total channels (both active and archived). If your Slack instance has more than 20K channels, please contact support and we can manually connect your desired channel.
